The Eagle Hotel was an early San Luis Obispo hotel and stage house. Records suggest it was operating by the mid-to-late 1860s. The hotel was first located at the northwest corner of Monterey and Osos Streets, approximately where the Andrews Building stands today.

Early proprietors of the Eagle Hotel included Patrick Dunn and then S. P. McDougall, who was the first mayor of San Luis Obispo.1

Carleton Watkins captured the Eagle Hotel in 1877 when he photographed Monterey Street from Osos Street. The California State Library has a digitized version of the photograph available at their catalog.

In 1884 Andrew Kieran bought the Eagle Hotel and moved the structure to a new location on Monterey Street near Santa Rosa to make room for the Andrews Building. In 1887 the building burned down, but was rebuilt and opened as the Commercial Hotel in July 1887.2 The new building was constructed by William Evans, with plans designed by local architect H. S. Laird.3
