SkokieWiki will become a vibrant extension of the community because of help from people just like you; together we can make the wiki better!

  • Write a new article about a thing you like- Does your favorite park, business, house,church,  or community organization have an entry yet?  If you search for a page and don't find anything that matches what you're looking for, feel free to start one and talk about it. You can also write on any other topic related to Skokie. Include web links and research, or just write what you know.

  • Help maintain and publicize the wiki-It's very helpful to occasionally check the Activity page and keep an eye out for both bad additions (noticing and removing spam and vandalism) and good things (noticing and welcoming/encouraging new contributors). It's also great to share this project with your friends who might be interested in reading or contributing.

  • Be a Wiki Gnome and help clean up the site in small (but important!) ways.

  • Add a tag to an article- Tags are helpful to connect related articles. Feel free to add more tags to any article - scroll to the bottom of the article, and select "Edit tags", and add some keywords that might be useful.

  • Add photos to the wiki - they really help make the wiki a more interesting place! You can find an article that needs a new photo, select "Edit" at the top, then select the  image button on the toolbar to upload one.

  • Add a map to a page

  1. If you don't already know the location, you can look it up on Google Maps.

  2. Select "Edit" at the top of the article, scroll down, and then select "Edit map" at bottom right.

  3. Pick a marker option, add a pin or box to the map, and save. See LocalWiki's mapping help page for screenshots of how to do this.
