San Francisco State University School of Nursing

San Francisco State University School of Nursing provides undergraduate and graduate students education for those working towards becoming a nurse in the healthcare system. Both the baccalaureate and masters degree programs in nursing at San Francisco State University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. This program includes an inclusive and passionate team of faculty that aim towards providing a diverse and rich learning experience. Here, diversity is well embraced in both the student body and faculty, as many students go on to serve diverse populations with an importance placed on health equality and social and environmental justice in their fields.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

This program prepares students for a position as a registered nurse. Here, students will follow an eight semester curriculum, including clinicals and preparation for NCLEX-RN exam. 

Admissions:

Requirements and Prerequisites: 

  • Must be a California resident or be eligible for in-state tuition

  • ATI Teas score of 78 or higher (maximum of three attempts)

  • Must have completed all prerequisite courses from accredited College or University (applicants must receive letter grade of C or higher)

BSN and Accelerated BSN Program Roadmap 

Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN)

Program for California registered nurses pursuing an advanced practice nursing education. Students of the program follow a two year curriculum including clinicals and a completed thesis or applied research. 

Emphasis/ Specialty Areas: 

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Nursing Administration, Public/Community Health, and RN-MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Concentration

Requirements and Prerequisites: 

  • Valid California RN license 

  • One year RN clinical experience*

  • BSN degree from a regionally accredited institution  

  • GPA of 3.0 or above in the last 60 semester units earned

Post Master's Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate (FNP)

This is a 12-14 month program designed for nurses who already have masters or doctorate nursing degree and plan on becoming a nurse practitioner.

  • All classes are taught by School of Nursing faculty

  • All students are assigned a School of Nursing faculty advisor

  • Tuition is $675 per unit for the 31 unit program

Requirements and Prerequisites 

  • Master’s degree or higher in nursing

  • Valid California RN license

  • One year RN clinical experience

  • Personal statement of 250-500 words

  • Unofficial transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended

  • Three reference letters - at least one of these must address health-related work or volunteer experience.
