About:

The first Sea Cadet unit was established in 1854 at Whitstable in Kent, created by communities wanting to give young people instruction on a naval theme. Traditionally old seafarers provided training while local businessmen funded the Unit Headquarters.

The tradition of community - based Sea Cadet Units continues today with 400 across the UK each with charitable status enabling them to raise funds to meet their running costs. All Units are members of the Sea Cadet Corps and are governed by the national charity MSSC - the Marine Society & Sea Cadets.

We work partnership with the Royal Navy under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and receive corporate support from commercial shipping companies and the Maritime sector. Our core purpose is to celebrate Britain's maritime heritage and contribute to its future development by supporting young people as Sea Cadets.

Scarborough Sea Cadets HQ is based at the bottom of East Sandgate behind the Newcastle Packet.  The old St. Thomas's church is remodelled into a training ship lay out.  The restoration works to the external building began in July 2011 and currently working around to the front entrance.

Our vision is to remove the derelict buildings on Tuthill and build a much needed residential parking area and parade ground.  This will improve the area, links with the local community and create a safe outdoor space for the cadets to practice drill in the summer months. We attend a lot of ceremonies that require marching such as on Armed Forces Day & Trafalgar Parade are both prime examples.

In the summer we spend most of the light evenings at Wykeham Lakes practicing boating skills which count towards gaining qualifications.

Scarborough Sea cadets is a fantastic uniformed youth organisation to get involved in where you can acquire new skills, qualifications, friends and a renewed community spirit.
