Thomas Tewell murdered Lewis Cisssel on Christmas Day 1883. At the celebration of a wedding, Tewell arrived at his uncle Cissel's home brandishing a knife. Both men were accused of drinking. Cissell ordered Tewell to leave, and when he would not, struck him with a shovel. Tewell drew a pistol and shot Cissel. Tewell was convicted to fifteen years in prison.
