March Fong Eu 2

March Fong Eu (March 29, 1922 – December 21, 2017) was the first American of Asian heritage and first woman to serve both on the Alameda County Board of Education and as California Secretary of State.

In 1994, Dr. Eu accepted President Clinton's appointment as the United States Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia.

A lifelong Democrat, some of her educational and political accomplishments include:

  • Medical School: BS Dentistry, University of California at Berkeley (1943)
  • University: MEd, Mills College (1951)
  • University: EdD, Stanford University (1954)
  • California State Assembly 15th (1967 – 1974)
  • California Secretary of State (1975 – 1993)
  • US Ambassador to Micronesia (1994 – 1996)

Eu currently lives in both Sacramento and Singapore. Although she is still alive, a monument has been constructed for her future use at Mountain View Cemetery.
