Harriet Davis was an African American woman who worked to free slaves before moving from Philadelphia to California in 1854.
Later in life she held the position as the first matron of the Home for the Aged and Infirm Colored People at Beulah (Beulah Heights was later annexed to Oakland). Mrs. Davis also served on the Board of Directors for the Home.
