According to the National Institute of Mental Health Disorders, 26 percent of Americans ages 18 and older — about one in four adults — suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder. Recently, Democratic Senator Kamala Harris, in Berkeley County, South Carolina, unveiled a new mental health care plan that is centered on providing “mental health on demand” and making it accessible to all Americans at any place and time. She will institute this with her Medicare for All plan where patients will be given direct access to health care providers by phone or video. I picked this topic due to the prevalence of mental health problems in America and the debate if it should be included in a healthcare perspective. Mental health issues are related largely to drug abuse and suicide. #GEOG203 #social
