Footwear etiquette in South Korea is quite simple.
- Take off your shoes inside homes. Depending on the building, leave them outside the door or just inside the door. You can keep your socks on.
- At temples, take off your shoes before entering inside the temple. The shoe racks by the doorways will remind you.
- At public schools and some hagwons and offices, teachers are expected to have two pairs of shoes: the outside shoes that they arrive and leave with, and their indoor school shoes/sandals.
- Not an etiquette rule, but good health advice anyway: Wear footwear outside! South Korea is not the place to be a hippie and walk around barefoot.
