SARANAC LAKE
Matilda C. Gay died Friday, August 1 at the Community General Hospital in Syracuse. She had been a resident of Saranac Lake from 1918 until 1973 when she moved to Cleveland Heights, Ohio to live with her daughter.
Mrs. Gay was born February 9, 1896 in Ausable Forks, the daughter of Franklin and Esther Lashway Colby. She was the widow of Wallace Gay who died in 1966.
Survivors include two daughters, Esther G. Miller of Manlius, whom she was visiting at the time of her death; and Alice Grinell of Cleveland Heights with whom she made her home.
A son Wallace Gay of Saranac Lake, a brother Raymond Colby of Buffalo and six grandchildren also survive. She reposed at the Fortune Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.
The funeral service was held today at 2 p.m., with Rev. Richard Chatterton of the Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the North Elba Cemetery in Lake, Placid.
