Kaare Kvikne was a Norwegian sailor who cured for TB at the Spear Cottage. He returned home in December of 1945, and sent several postcards back to the Spears between December 1945 and March 1946.

"December 3 - [19]45: Dear Pat and Emma, I intended to send you a letter for Christmas but the address I have now is only temporary so I am going to wait a little yet. I was discharged in Oslo, and now I am staying about 5 hours train-ride from there as there is no lodgings in town. I wish you a Happy New Year and the best of luck to you. KAARE KVIKNE"

"February 24 - [19]46: Dear Emma, I couldn't get a chance to come to the village and say good buoy [sic] to you They were to strict at Stony Wold I have travelled around this country visiting relations for a month. Now I am training on skis every day and I enjoy it very much. Hope you are well and in good health. Best regards from KAARE KVIKNE This is one of the old stave churches. I think they are from the 10th or 11th century and they are still in use. [The card shows a picture of Borgund Stavkirke, Loerdal.]"

"February 24 - [19]46: Dear Pat, How is everything in the village now and how are you yourself? I am all right and things are getting better all the time here. When I came to Norway you could hardly buy a smoke but I had som American tobacco and cigarettes and managed to get along. Now since yesterday tobacco is free and spirits and beer also. I hope to see you some day again when I start to move around. Regards, K. KVIKNE"

"March 18 - [19]46: Dear Emma, I have now been in Oslo for a week. I have seen Draagen and said good buy [sic] to him an hour ago. He looked fine and was getting along well. I am all right myself and going up country to-day. My best regards to Pat. KAARE KVIKNE Good luck to you."
