Harry A. Passino was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Levi and Mary (Anise) Passino.

SARANAC LAKE - Harry A. Passino, 82, formerly of Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. Born in Plattsburgh on June 27, 1919, he was the son of Levi and Mary (Anise) Passino.

Mr. Passino was a WWII veteran of the Army serving in Germany. He had been a resident of Saranac Lake for over 60 years, moving here from Plattsburgh. Mr. Passino's first occupation was repairing and reselling cars under the name of Passino's Auto Sales in 1946. His first garage burned in 1946. He then moved his operation in 1947 and his second garage burned that year. He began selling cars for Julian Rice at Northland Auto Sales and sold mostly General Motors cars at various dealerships over the years. He was the top GM salesman in the U.S. in 1972 and 1973. He was last employed by Carl Kaplan, retiring in the mid-1990s. He enjoyed ice fishing, his flower garden and was known for feeding the local ducks. He was also an animal lover, especially his dog Sam. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 1508.

He married the former Marian Richards on March 11, 1939.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Turner and her husband Frank of Saranac Lake and Mrs. Janet Collier and her husband William also of Saranac Lake; five grandsons: William Collier of Bellows Falls, Vt.; Craig Collier of Saranac Lake; Richard Collier of Arlington, Mass.; Eric Turner of Tupper Lake and Timothy Turner of Saranac Lake; one brother, Milton Passino of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Lucille Passino of Schenectady and Violet Eaton of Jackson, Fla.; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife on. Nov. 6,1995 and one grandson, Jamie Collier.

Visitation will be at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, May 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A veterans service will be held at 7:45 p.m., an Elks service will be held at 8 p.m. and a bible vigil will follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church with the Rev. Timothy Soucy officiating. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Friends wishing to remember Mr. Passino may make memorial contributions to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad or High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home.
