Frederic Baker was the stepfather of Lewis Graham Lake, in whose memory Baker Memorial Chapel was built. He operated a warehouse business in Manhattan.  He died at his home at 816 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan.  He owned a house on Jekyll Island, Georgia; a biography appears in The Jekyll Island Cottage Colony, pp. 53-62, June Hall McCash, U. Georgia Press, 1998.  U.S. President William McKinley stayed in the house for a few days in 1899.
