Former Enterprise owner dies in New York City

NEW YORK CITY - Dean R. Carey, 61, a former owner of the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, died of cancer Monday, May 28 in New York City,

Carey owned the Daily Enterprise from March, 1952 until May, 1953 when he sold the newspaper to Roger Tubby and James Loeb Jr.

Carey was born July 1, 1922 in Ames, Iowa. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve during World War Two. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was the co-owner of the Marysville, Ohio Evening Tribune from 1949 until 1951. In 1952 he purchased the Daily Enterprise from Frederick Kury. For the past 13 years he had worked for the New York State Department of Labor as a hearing officer.

Carey is survived by his second wife, Benita (Braggiotti) Carey of New York City; a daughter, Wonder Carey George of Duxbury, Ma.; a granddaughter, Kit George, also of Duxbury, Ma.; and a sister, Neva Carey Wise of Des Moines, Iowa.
