CYRIL CARPENTER DIES AT HOSPITAL AT PLATTSBURG
Was Resident of Saranac Lake Where He Was at One Time Proprietor of Riverside Inn — Built Power Plant at Port Henry
Cyril Carpenter, 67, a well known resident of Saranac Lake died Tuesday night, in the Physician's hospital at Plattsburg.
During his lifetime Mr. Carpenter figured prominently in the development of Saranac Lake, having resided there for 48 years. He was born in Ellenburg, June 30, 1866.
Mr. Carpenter entered the Plattsburg hospital on November 12.
During his lifetime Mr. Carpenter had been connected with the Niagara Hudson power company as superintendent of the Port Henry plant. The business had been originally built by Mr. Carpenter, and when the plant was sold to the utilities organization, he continued as superintendent. He also conducted the Riverside Inn, famous Saranac Lake hotel, with Wallace Murray, another noted Adirondack pioneer. Other ventures connected with Saranac Lake and surrounding territory also claimed his attention.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by one brother, Roy of Ellenburg and one sister, Mrs. Ada Atkinson of Plattsburg. The body was brought to Saranac Lake from Plattsburgh and it was expected that interment will take place in that village.
