On a 1912 map of Upper Saranac Lake, it bears the legend "Patton Hall", suggesting that it may have been owned by lumberman Henry Patton.

State now owns all Buck Island

ALBANY — The state has purchased 13 acres on Buck Island in Upper Saranac Lake, giving it complete ownership of the 30-acre island.

The latest acquisition was purchased for $60,000 from Thomas P. Blagden Jr. of Lakeville, Conn., using 1972 Environmental Quality Bond Act funds.

The 13-acre parcel has 3,300 feet of shoreline on the west side of the island. Several sections of the new lake frontage are rocky, with gently sloping rock slabs forming the shoreline, particularly at the southern end of the acquisition. However, boat landings are possible on virtually all sections of the shore, the conservation department says.

Director of acquisitions for the department, Dale Huyck said today there are no plans for developing the island as a campsite but informal picnicking and camping will be permitted.
