Map of South Granville: 

Overview:

Located in Creedmoor, North Carolina South Granville high school has been there to educate teens for 59 years. Founded in 1962 as Creedmoor High the school opened as a replacement for the original high school that was burned down due to an electrical fire. The school recorded 705 students during the 2020-2021 school year. The school offers students four 90-minute classes each day. The school originally had two tracks for students to do; The school of Health and Life Sciences and The School of Technology. These tracks ended for the school year of 2015-2016 after all courses were offered to students. 

Notable Events:

For South Granville the most media-covered events are some of the controversies; The top two are the Mercury Incident and the Central-South Granville merge.

On the morning of October 24, 2005 staff at South Granville found out that mercury was missing from a classroom lab. The school went on a two-hour delay and later found the student who took the mercury. 

In recent news, the Granville County Board of Education voted to merge South Granville High School with neighboring school Granville Central. The plan was to have the middle schoolers use South Granville to keep student retention. Their plan would take effect for the 2022-2023 school year. This decision caused outrage from people, especially students as they held a sit-in to voice their concerns. The debate and decision are ongoing and have not yet reached a final resolution. 

Extra-Curricular:

The school offers eight clubs and twelve sports that include varsity, junior varsity, and co-ed. The clubs are Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), Future Farmers of America (FFA), Fishing Club, French Club, Humane Society, Viking Marching Band, and National Honor Society. The sports which include men's and women's are Basketball, Baseball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Soccer, Tennis, Track and Field, Wrestling, Softball, and Volleyball.

Notable Alumni:

The three most notable alumni are Linda L. Bray, Matt Harrison, and William Jeffery "Jeff" Johnson. Linda Bray was a U.S. Army officer who was the first woman to lead United States military troops into combat. Matt Harrison was a former MLB pitcher who played for the Texas Rangers from 2008-2015 and was an All-Star in 2012. William Johnson was a former MLB pitcher for the New York Yankees from 1991 to 1993.
