Duke University's East Campus has a low (anywhere from about 2-5 feet tall at different points) stone wall around its perimeter. For many people "the wall" is a symbol of the university's attempts to wall itself off from the city (symbolic because it's too short to actually wall anything off from anything). Apparently though: "its 1916 construction came about "as part of a joint effort by the college and the City of Durham to beautify the neighborhood," according to Duke's archives." [source]

There's a running trail along the inside of the wall which many people jog on.
