A particularly bad day during the Summer of 2008 due to smoke from fires

The majority of the time the air is fairly clear in Davis. There are times when the air quality in the valley gets bad, especially when there are fires in the area. Air pollution caused by human activities is also a concern. The YSAQMD is the local governing body that concerns itself with the air.  Locally, air quality is studied at Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District http://www.ysaqmd.org/

You can get more information about air quality, including realtime data for many counties at http://www.airquality.org.  Other options are http://weather.weatherbug.com/CA/Davis-weather/air-quality.html and http://www.airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.local_city&cityid=274

See also Spare the Air alerts.

Possible wood burning and leaf-blower bans have been considered by the city to improve air quality.
