Mrs. Doris Baker (Wylie) Hoskins worked in the Nonacademic Personnel Office at the University of Illinois from 1947-1974 and she taught Orientation Class for new employees from 1968-1974. Doris was appointed a member of the Citizen's Advisory Committee to the Board of Education and the Urbana Park District Advisory Committee and served on those boards until 1974. She was made a life member of P.T.A in 1962. Her
other civic and community service included her Church, St. Mary, where she served as Trustee, Lector and Eucharistic Minister; R.S.V.P. - Tax Counseling For the Elderly; Senior Health Insurance Program, Matthew House Board Member, Provena Covenant Medical Center Auxiliary, Krannert Center Senior Volunteer Program - Usher; Champaign County Historical Society - President; and the Committee on African-American
History in Champaign County of the Early American Museum.

She was a charter member of the National Council of Negro Women, Champaign County section.

Doris Keanea Hoskins, nee Baker was born at Champaign, Illinois on October 18, 1911. Her mother, a day worker, was born at Carlyle, Illinois on October 9, 1890. Her father, a welder and mechanical engineer, was born in Ohio on April 9, 1889 (died December 1965). She was married to Lorenzo Wylie (1929-1976) and, after his death, was married to Eugene D. Hoskins. There are ten children. She lived in Chicago Heights, Illinois from 1929 to 1939. She attended the University of Illinois. She has worked as a secretary and clerk and as an adult education instructor. Her affiliations have included the PTA, Citizens Advisory Council, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Church Women United, Catholic Daughters of America, Task Force for Hunger, March of Dimes, and the Congress for Community Integration. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, where she played the
organ.
