!SOUTHAM, John (c1803-16/12/1855) Born Lambeth, Surrey, England. Died Millbank SA. Builder from 11 Belvidere Rd, Lambeth, Surrey, England. Farmer; Millbank - Section 257 District of Adelaide. Brother to Henry Southam, Clerk of Works to the City Waterworks, who d 20/12/1857 Exeter Hotel Adelaide, aged 48.
SOUTHAM, Mrs John nee Selina Victoria ? (c1803-7/6/1875) Died Strathalbyn SA.
Millbank consisted of Section 257 Survey B - today Hundred of Adelaide, stretching down from the southern bank of the Torrens River to present-day Payneham Road. The farm was directly opposite present-day Walkerville and is now laid out as the suburb of College Park. I should think that the name Millbank derives from the fact that the SA Company Mill stood against the Torrens River near present-day Hackney Bridge on adjoining Section 256 between the Adelaide Parklands and John Southam’s farm.
