Since the times of the Roman empire Aachen is famous for its hot mineral spring water. The spring is believed to have various healing effects but even if you are sceptical about its medical sense, it is certainly soothing for your soul. Enjoying the hot springs is no longer a privilege for Royals and Nobleman, but has become a luxury available to every visitor and greatly appreciated by a large part of the Germans.

The modern bathhouse "Carolus Thermen" was opened in 2001, after the last historical bathhouse had to be closed down in 1996.

When you enter the bath, you will be given a chip coin, which serves like a credit card within the bathhouse. You can stay as long as you want and use this chip coin to buy food and drinks in the restaurant. When leaving the bath, you need to pay the corresponding price registered on the chip coin.

The building is divided into two separate parts:

The first part is similar to a usual public bath, with 8 different pools, both inside and outdoors. There is a rest room, a steam bath and a sandy beach.

The other part of the building is only accessible for you if you pay for a combined "spa and sauna" ticket, which obviously is more expensive. There are 14 different saunas with different temperatures and different levels of humidity. Moreover there is a outdoor area, some smaller pools and rest rooms. This entire second part of the building, separated from the other one, stictly is a nudism area. Most people wear a bathrobe, which they take of when entering one of the saunas.

In both parts of the bath there is a bar and restaurant. You can use a solarium or book a massage for additional fee.
