Manzanar is a land located 360 kilometers north of Los Angeles.^(1:118)

It became the property of the Los Angeles City when it built an irrigation canal to take water from the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Plantations and orchards were once developed, but before 1942 it was a wasteland.^(1:119)

After the outbreak of the Pacific War, this is the place where the Japanese American internment camp was quickly constructed by the Western Command.^(1:118)
