Kangaroo Island, South Australia, is a large inhabited island south of Yorke Peninsula, accessible by ferry and aircraft. It was the site of the first formal settlement of South Australia. (Many South Australians don't know this.) The South Australian Company made their first base there before deciding it was not suitable as the site of a capital city, and removing to the Adelaide Plains. The Island has a small population, but a rich history!
