U.S. Census for 1840.

The Town of Harrietstown was not formed until 1841, and it appears that today's Saranac Lake area was in 1840 divided between the jurisdiction of the Town of Duane (on the Franklin County side) and the Town of Wilmington (on the Essex County side). Others listed near them are Samuel Twambly (Brandon), Samuel(?) Runnels, Jonathan M. Bissell, and Micah Flanders. It is not known whether they lived in or even near today's Saranac Lake.

Others listed near them were Nathan B. Markham, Oliver Stroud, Benjamin B. Jackman, Mark Avery, and Lemuel(?) Knapp. It is not known whether these people lived in or even near today's Saranac Lake.
