SARANAC LAKE — Rita Duquette Hadjo, 85; of 121 Main St., Saranac Lake; died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005 at her home.
Born on July 17, 1920 in Saranac Lake, she was the daughter of William and Catherine (LeBeau) Duquette.
Mrs. Hadjo was a life-long resident of Saranac Lake and was employed as a bookkeeper for Saranac Lake Electric, Ryan Electric and Fobare & Sons before retiring in the early 1980s.
She had been a volunteer at St. Bernard's School and enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, reading, tending her flowers and tomato plants, feeding her birds and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters: Gail Rogers Rice, Suzanne Rice and her husband Clyde Baker, and Barbara Rice and her husband Chad McCarthy, all of Saranac Lake; two grandchildren: Samuel Alex Baker and Cal McCarthy Rice; two sisters: Eleanor Vitulo and her husband Camillo of Burlington, N.J. and Shirley McGill and her husband Howard of Lake Clear; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alex L. Hadjo, on Feb. 16, 1984; her parents; and two brothers: William and John Duquette.
Calling hours will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Bible vigil will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at St. Bernard's Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake. Following the burial, a reception will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Hotel Saranac.
Friends wishing to remember Mrs. Hadjo may make memorial contributions to the Saranac Lake Ecumenical Food Pantry, the Tri-Lakes Humane Society or the North Country Community College Foundation in care of the funeral home.
