Norbert "Pete" Higgins served as a village policeman before opening Higgins Upper Broadway Grocery at 226 Broadway.
He is buried in Saint Bernard's Cemetery.
Note: His little used first name sometimes appeared as "Norbet."

Trout Plentiful In Weekend Catch
Several fishermen with sunburned hands and nothing else won't agree, but "Pete" Higgins claims fishing over the weekend was very good.
Higgins' store, official weighing station for the Fish and Game Club and State fishing contests, nearly turned into a fish market yesterday. Percy Saumier, of 38 Margaret street, checked in a three-pound rainbow trout. The prize was registered in the local contest.
Later, Henry Perrino, of Gabriels, came in with a catch of four speckled trout weighing a total of five pounds, 10 ounces. The largest fish was two pounds, eight ounces and the catch ranged in length from 11 to 18 inches.

Norbert Higgins
SAN RAMON, CALIF. - Norbert (Pete) Higgins, 61, died suddenly Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Velma) McCall.
Mr. Higgins was born in Hudson, N.Y. and had lived most of his life in Saranac Lake, N.Y. He graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1932, and operated the Higgins Taxi Service and the Trudeau Bus Line with his father. For nine years he was a member of the Saranac Lake Police Department, and from 1945 to 1966 operated the Upper Broadway Grocery in Saranac Lake.
He moved to California in 1967 and was employed at K-Mart Sporting Goods in Sacramento until his death.
Mr. Higgins was an avid hunter and fisherman and was the inventor of the "Wawbeek Wobbler,'' a fishing spoon. He was one of the founders of the Adirondack Hunting Club around 1955.
His parents were James and Louise Miller Higgins.
Survivors besides Mrs. McCall are another daughter, Mrs. James (Sharon) Bishop of Saranac Lake; six grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Peter (Alma) Haase of Saranac Lake.
The Fortune Funeral Home in Saranac Lake has charge of funeral arrangements which are incomplete at this time. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Mr. Higgins make donations to the William Wallace Scholarship Fund or to Santa's Jukebox in care of Bruce McNamara at the Saranac Lake Police Department.
